This week in 2nd grade...

Hello! Week 5 ahead...

Reading:

We will begin station rotations for Daily 5 this week, in the hopes of having it completely up and running by the end of the week! In our shared reading time, we will be focusing on making sense of what we read. The first area of study we will focus on is making predictions before reading. The next few weeks will follow up with different strategies we can use.

Writing

We are still working on Narrative writing and following Lucy Calkins. Our focus for most of this week will be revising with intent, and making sure our writing makes sense. We will also fill in with a "sparkle" words lesson to talk about how good writers choose a variety of words, and that these words can invoke emotions, or make a reader think a certain way.

Math

We are still focusing on Subtraction strategies, and this week we will add a few more to our book. We will also have our first rotation of ST math (more on that to come!)
Monday- 3.3: Using addition to help solve subtraction problems within 10.
Tuesday- ST Math
Wednesday- 3.4: Using addition to help solve subtraction problems within 18.
Thursday- 3.5 : Making 10 to subtract (Review coming home tonight)
Friday- Review/Test Topic 3
* As stated, the review will go home Thursday night and we will test on Friday! Then we move onto our first place value unit, Beads and Shoes, Making Twos!

Science

We are taking a break from science to begin learning about Geography

Social Studies:

We will focus on Geography this week, running for the next 2 weeks with lots of fun activities planned.

It's going to be a great week in 2nd grade!
